John MacDonald has coauthored an article with colleagues from Indiana University, University of North Carolina, and Duke University that appeared this week in the Proceeding of the National Academy of Sciences entitled “Early life lead exposure from private well water increases juvenile delinquency risk among US teens.” The paper shows that exposure to lead from private well drinking water significantly increased the risk of lead in blood which in turn substantially increased a child’s risk of an official record for juvenile delinquency. The finding suggest that providing water filters or connections to municipal water for homes on private wells could significantly reduce lead in blood.
