Sarah Berkman

Sarah Berkman is pursuing a Master of Science degree in Criminology at the University of Pennsylvania.  She is also on the dual degree track for her MSW with a Criminal Justice specialization.  Prior to packing up and moving across the country to Philadelphia, Sarah grew up in San Diego, California.  She attended Pepperdine University in Malibu, California where she earned a degree in Psychology with a minor in Social Work in April 2023.  Over the last 2.5 years she has found great joy from interning with the Prison Education Project (PEP).  During that time, she had the honor of teaching numerous classes, such as “Forgiveness & Healing” and “Building Healthy Relationships,” inside of various California prisons.  In the Summer of 2023, this organization even brought her all the way to Edinburgh, Scotland and Honolulu, Hawaii as a PEP Veteran.  While there, she taught classes and met with local policy makers to inspire change and a brighter future for those who are currently or were formerly incarcerated.  Aside from her deeply rooted desire to advocate for populations that are often left behind, she also enjoys things that help her to recharge and bring the best version of herself to the table.  Sarah loves traveling, exploring new restaurants and speakeasies, going to concerts (specifically EDM), reflective walks in nature, fashion, and interior design.  Most of all, she adores and misses her Golden Retriever named Ollie who is living it up back home in SoCal with his long-term girlfriend.
