Minyoung Lee

Minyoung Lee is a master’s student in the Department of Criminology. Her research interests include hate crime, unprotected victims, wrongful punishment on criminals, and suffering innocent suspects and people around them affected by false identifying. She is in pursuit of enhancing public welfare by working against these issues.

Prior to embarking on academic journey at Penn, she earned a degree of B.A. in Psychology from Ewha Womans University in South Korea, graduating with top honors (summa cum laude). Moreover, in 2022, she studied at Humboldt Universität zu Berlin in Germany, where she delved into psychological influence modern surveillance society exerts on people, asserting the urgency of raising social awareness and roles of both citizens and governmental authorities for privacy and freedom. She also took a profound interest in substance and behavior addiction, considering individual purpose and social bond as essential for preventing and intervening in addiction. Apart from academia, she worked as a student reporter at Korean Psychological Association and was a R/A (Regulatory Affairs) assistant manager at DB Pharm Korea, dealing with new drug approval and registration, drug product license renewal, and so on.

Having the background in psychology, Minyoung expands insight into society in flux through interdisciplinary approaches with a propensity of looking at issues obliquely and in between.
