Ph.D. in Criminology
Jacob Kaplan is a Postdoctoral Fellow at the University of Pennsylvania. He holds a PhD and a Master’s degree in criminology from the University of Pennsylvania and a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice from California State University, Sacramento. His research primarily focuses on Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design (CPTED), specifically on the effect of outdoor lighting on crime. His past work has examined the relationship between police manpower and imprisonment, measures of crime concentration, and the effect of marijuana decriminalization on serious domestic violence. He has also written software and compiled datasets to make working with criminal justice data easier.
