Flavia Mandatori

Flavia Mandatori is a doctoral candidate in the Department of Criminology. Her research centers on courts and victimization, examining how court processes and legal decision-making shape outcomes for both victims and defendants. Her work focuses on quasi-experimental designs, alongside descriptive analyses and randomized controlled trials. She studies case outcomes, risk assessment tools, and access to legal representation to inform policy and practice within the criminal justice system.
Flavia earned both her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in criminology and criminal justice from the University of Tampa. Following graduation, she joined the University of Tampa as a part-time faculty member, where she taught an introductory course in criminology. Her teaching emphasizes foundational concepts, critical thinking, and the application of research to real-world criminal justice issues.
Beyond academia, Flavia has professional experience as a sexual assault victim advocate at the Crisis Center of Tampa Bay. In this role, she provided direct support to survivors and gained practical insight into the intersection of victim services, legal systems, and trauma-informed responses. This experience continues to inform her research, grounding her work in both scholarly and applied perspectives.
