Some cities have more problems than others: Richard Berk on the 2016 FBI National Crime Statistics

The Washington Post this week quoted Penn Criminology professor Richard Berk on the value--or lack thereof-- of national crime statistics. He says that the 2016 FBI report showing that crime nationwide increased sharply in the past two years doesn't really guide policy concerns because violent crime is a local issue. Berk added: "Some cities have more problems than others, and in those cities some neighborhoods have more problems than others, and to talk about national anything is just politics."
