Nathaniel Sirlin

I graduated from the University of Pennsylvania in 2026 with a Bachelor of Arts in Neuroscience and minors in Chemistry and Psychology. My undergraduate experiences centered on developmental neurobiology research, community-based health outreach, and clinical work in emergency medicine. My senior thesis studied neonatal neuroimaging to examine how early brain connectivity predicts later sensory development. This work strengthened my interest in quantitative research and how biological and environmental factors influence human behavior. As a shift leader with Penn’s Shelter Health and Outreach Program, I worked directly with adults experiencing homelessness and substance use disorders. I made primary care and dental referrals, and assisted patients during free health clinics. I also volunteered at Chosen 300 Ministries, where I coordinated meal services, and at the Philadelphia VA Medical Center, where I assisted with triage and patient transport in the Emergency Department. I was a member and mentor on the Penn Electric Racing Formula SAE team and worked as a photographer for The Daily Pennsylvanian. As a student in Penn’s Master of Science in Criminology program, I am studying how criminal justice policy and public health are interconnected. I am particularly interested in drug enforcement, harm reduction, and the ways that access to healthcare and social services shape outcomes for impacted individuals and their communities.
